Raf Urban

Biography

Raf Urban is a French street artist born in the 70s. He grew up in the suburbs of Paris under the influence of the emerging street art culture of the early 80s.

The main subjects of his work are women, which is a big source of inspiration for the artist, from soul singer Amy Winehouse, the Pakistani women’s rights activist Malala Yousufzai to Angela Davis, a member of the “Black Panthers” a civil rights activist in the United States. He represents as well male icons of the popular culture such as David Bowie, Mohamed Ali and Jimi Hendrix.

To make his artwork, he uses paint bombs and stencils which allow him to express himself in all sorts of urban supports which he enjoys modifying, for example on road signs or metro maps. We can also find his creations on the walls of the cities, mostly in the region of Paris as well in other cities where he has been.
